Fall River Educational Television, located in the Instructional Media Center , offers a selection of courses in multimedia production. The information age has created a demand for multimedia artists, with unlimited growth potential for animators, designers, illustrators, broadcasters, writers, producers, editors and technicians. Many schools and companies have adapted to meet the demands of the emerging multimedia industry. Innovative curriculums devised of specialized courses are designed with the career potential of the student in mind. As the field grows and the demand for qualified professionals continues, schools with targeted programs will continue to emerge in the market. With this in mind, Fall River Educational Television has begun to move with the times, restructuring our courses with the future in mind.
Made for Television- The Making of a Pilot Episode for a Television Series (.5 credits)
(Grades 10, 11 and 12) semester
THIS IS A NEW COURSE BY FRED-TV
Calling all students! Think you’re a good actor/ actress, want to test your abilities at writing, ever think of writing a script for television, how about producing it, filming it, editing it , calling all of the shots and actually trying to syndicate it? Now is your chance.
Lots of production meetings in this classroom. Everyone interested can enroll. This class needs students with some former FRED-TV experience for camerawork and editing but is also looking for new students who just simply want to take a chance at this. If you’ve never been a member of FRED-TV and can’t edit or operate a camera… fear not. We also need people who can act, have a great voice, want to learn how to make their own music, are great at writing and people who can take charge be organize and produce. There is something for everyone.

62104 Introduction to Multimedia Production (TV1) (.5 credits)
(Grades 10, 11 no seniors) semester, 1 period
This course gives the student hands-on experience in many areas of the communication industry. All phases of video and audio production will be covered as well as the integration of technology. Students will learn digital still photography, digital video photography, shot composition, producing, scriptwriting, multimedia pre and post-production, editing, graphics, in-studio production and how to become on air talent.

:30 PSA which is written, filmed, produced and edited by the student

Mini-documentaries which are also written, filmed, produced and edited by the student

3-5 minute in-studio production in which students are teamed up in groups of 2-4 people as the director, producer and talent and have to hire a team of student professionals to assist in his/ her in-studio production.

62214 Multimedia Production II/ News & Movie Making (TV2) (1 credit)
(Grades 10, 11, 12) semester, 2 periods
Utilizing the technology and learned information from Intro to Multimedia Production, this course will engage students into production even further. Students will have the ability to further their experiences of the Final Cut Pro editing system and gain a more advanced knowledge of graphics including Adobe After Affects, Boris, Livetype, GarageBand and Motion. Students will master the art of working as a team as well as being a “jack-of-all-trades”. Heavy writing, research and producing components are evident in this course.
Our classroom is set up like a newsroom, with deadlines, current events, assigned stories and in-studio newscast information so it provides students with a real newsroom experience. Each student will be responsible for going out into the field and producing a news story, then packaging it!
Half the class will work on packaging stories for “Fall River First” for the next day (Emphasis here is very deadline oriented and daily pieces are expected). The other half of the class will dedicate their time for producing a weekly newscast Titled “FRED-TV News”. “Fall River First” airs daily on Channel 17, “FRED-TV News” will air weekly on Channel 17. Every two weeks, there will be a rotation.
Once at least 6 “FRED-TV News” shows have been canned, the emphasis will shift to movie making skills. The FRED-TV News team will now become a production team with a focus on making 5-minute shorts. They will be required to come up with a production name. There will be 2 groups (4-5 people in each) working on 2 short movies, then these 2 production teams will rotate with the “Fall River First” crew to allow equal learning experiences for all. The rotation will be 2 weeks again.
In addition, there will be some class time dedicated to teaching our students the technical set-up and all elements of a multi-media on-location toaster shoot (whether live and pre-produced). This will include, directing, audio, graphics, camera work, floor manager, production tech, play-by-play, video playback and more.
This course requires good communication skills and the ability to put it in writing and on tape.

62224 Advanced Multimedia Prod. (TV3) a Career in the Industry (TV3) (1 credit) (Grade 12, seniors only) full year, 1 period
This course refines the multimedia production skills to prepare students for post-secondary education or entry-level employment in the multimedia technology industry. Students are responsible for the entire production of Durfee High School ’s Video Yearbook, all in-studio talk shows, a resume, demo reel for employment of college entrance, and monthly shows of all genres.
In addition, this advanced course gives the students an opportunity to work with the community. Students are often asked to produce television commercials and/or psa’s for a local companies or organizations. These types of projects (when applicable) teach the student how to conduct themselves as true professionals in the industry and require that the students learn the business side of things. It’s real! These television commercials can be aired on any television station that the client deem fit, so it has to be great.
Students will also be required to produce as a team a new project each month. These projects will involve many genres in the television and film industries. Half of these projects will be set in-studio, while the other half will be on-location, multi-camera shoots. In order to develop assigned positions for the purpose of this project, each student will be required to interview for 2 positions (one for the in-studio portions and the other for the on-location portions of these projects). Position assignments will be posted during class prior to the first monthly project. Students will remain in these 2 positions for the full year during this course. After each monthly project is in the can, we will hold a round table discussion as to what worked, and what didn’t. At this time each member of this production team will evaluate one another and themselves.
In addition, there will be some class time dedicated to teaching our students the technical set-up and all elements of a multi-media on-location toaster shoot (whether live and pre-produced). This will include, directing, audio, graphics, camera work, floor manager, production tech, play-by-play, video playback and more.
All this prepares each student to develop his/ her resume and demo reel, which can be used for acceptance into various colleges, trade schools, internships and job opportunities.

Monthly shows of different genres. This is set up like a real working environment. Each student must earn his/ her job assignments by presenting his/her resume, interviewing for the position and stating whey they are the best person for the job

62454 Multimedia Direct Study (.5 credits)
(Grades 10, 11, 12) semester, only during the periods which TV1, TV2 and TV3 are held
Students who have completed Introduction to Multimedia Production (TV1) and Multimedia Production II (TV2) may request Direct Study. This enrollment can only be approved by the Instructor or the Director of the program. Students will be required to assist the Instructors and staff at the FRED-TV and will have assigned job responsibilities and tasks daily for the successful operation of FRED-TV, Channel 17. Students must have a good working knowledge of the equipment and technical skills needed to work effectively.
NOTE: Instructor approval is required. (Maximum 4 students per periods - only those periods in which TV1, TV2 and TV3 are held.)
